Four Marlins Named to 2006-2007 Scholastic All American Team

International Wheelchairs and Amputees Sports (IWAS) Results
Alice Bailey won 3 silver medals (50 Fr, 100 Br, and 200 IM) and a bronze (100 Fr) at the IWAS game in Taipei. :::

Junior Nationals Results
The Marlins men team finished 12th place team overall at the 2007 Speedo Junior National Championships held in Indianapolis from August 6-10. Heading the men was Dillon Connolly who finished 2nd and 3rd in 100 and 200 Breast, respectively. His times of 1:03.39 LCM in 100 Breast and 2:18.30 LCM in 200 Breast are both personal best and faster then the Olympic Trial marks for these events.

Other notable finishes were: Tommy Ryan finished 7th in 100 Breast and 14th in 200 Breast. Eric Murray finished 13th in 100 Fly. The men 400 Medley Relay (Brent Murray, Dillon Connolly, Eric Murray, Tommy Ryan) finished 9th. :::

7/16/2007 - Marlins won the 2007 Long Course Division II Age Group Championships this past weekend at the Georgia Tech Olympic pool. This is the 14 & Under Age Group third consecutive Division II LC State Championship since the 2005 LC season, matching similar third time repeated championship in SC season. The Marlins Girls scored a total of 1,887.50 points and edged the Marlins Boys's score of 1,760.50. The total combined team score of 3,648 points doubled 2006 team score of 1,832.50. It puts the team scoring over the 3,000-point mark for the first time, remarkably ahead in total points over two of the four Division I teams in Georgia. :::

Kelsey Gaid Gathers 2nd OT Cut -- 7/15/2007
7/15/2007 - On the final Day 4 of the Speedo Southern Sectional Meet, Kelsey Gaid of the Marietta Marlins swam to a pair of Olympic trial times for 200 LCM Backstroke during prelim and final of this event. Kelsey Gaid Gains Olympic Trial Time -- 7/14/2007
7/14/2007 - Kelsey Gaid, 16, swam to her first OT cut on Day 2 competition at the Speedo Southern Sectional Championship being held in Auburn, Alabama. She dropped 1.44 sec. from her previous best of 1:06.81 100 LCM BK during the morning prelim, clocking in a time of 1:05.37. At the evening final, Kelsey lowered her 100 LCM BK time to 1:04.44 and placed 5th overall in this event. [Speedo Southern Sectional at AU, Day 2 Results...] :::

Marlins Set Two New AG State LC Records at Coaches Invite -- 7/7/2007
Two Marlins age group swimmers have unofficially broken the Georgia State Long Course Records during the Coaches Invite Meet held two weeks ago at the Cobb County Mountain View Aquatic Center.

Henry Loong, 12, set a new Boys 12&U 200 Fly State Record at 2:27.37. He bested the state record of 2:30.67 for this event, previously held by Ryan Freed of ASL and set in 7/16/2003, by more than 3 seconds. Lily Tang, also 12, narrowly broke the state record for Girls 12&U 200 Back of 2:28.31 which was previously set by Lauren Pfohl of SA at Georgia State meet on 7/16/2003. Her new record for this event is 2:28:00.

Both marks are currently top 16 NRT's this year for these respective events for the 12&U Boys and Girls Age Group. As a team, the Marlins turned in 10 of the total 17 NRT performances during the meet. They are:

Marlins Master Set World Record!!
6/4/2007 - Marlins master swimmer Doug Malcolm participated in the Annual Classic City LC Invitational held at UGA in Athens, GA, this past weekend (June 2). He set a new Masters World Record of 31.37 in 50 LCM Breast Stroke for the 50-54 Age Group. The previous world record was 31.97.

According to Coach Lim, Doug missed the 100BR LCM WR by 10/100th second which he will try again to break it in July. :::

2006-07 Marlins All-Stars and Championships
Marlins swimmers and coaches have capped another back-to-back championship year by placing 45 swimmers on the Georgia Swimming All-Star list for 2006-07 (please scroll down to club code LINS).

In essence of being a Marlins family, the Arch's, Crenshaw's, Murray's, Onken's, and Peters's all have siblings named to this latest Georgia All-Star list. Congratulations to all swimmers who have achieved this special recognition!!

Ryan Signs with East Carolina
Tommy Ryan has signed a national letter of intent to become part of the Division I, Conference USA swim team of East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Tommy has achieved Junior National times in the 100 breast and participated as a member of the Marlins senior relay team that competed in the 2007 Spring Championships in East Meadow, New York. Tommy has also recently earned the Eagle Scout rank, the highest advancement rank in Scouting.

Marlins Capture 2007 North Divisional Title to End Regular Short Course Session

Connolly, Newsome Swim To Senior Sectional Titles
3/12/2007 - The Marlins had a strong showing this past weekend at the Speedo Champions Series Southern Zone Eastern meet, as the senior sectional meet now called, held at Georgia Tech. Jenna Newsome tied for first place in the 50 free while Dillon Connolly took home the top honors in the 100 and 200 breast stroke events. Lily Tang, a 12-year-old qualifier at this meet, broke the GA Age Group state record in the 100 back stroke with a time of 59.19.

Marlins AG Won Consecutive State Championship with 2137.5 Points
2/20 - Marlins Age Group swimmers heated up the cool water in the Chatham County Aquatic Center pool this past State Championship weekend by again capturing the 2007 Division II Championship. A total of 33 swimmers participated in this outstanding team effort, showing one of the most balanced Marlins age group team ever with 1099 points earned by the girl swimmers and the the remaining 1038.5 points gathered by the boy team - both first place - for a combined team score of 2137.5 points.

Individual state champions were: Liz Braun 13/14 Girls 400 IM; Henry Loong 11/12 Boys 100 Fly and 200 Fly; Kylie Stewart 10&U Girls 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Back, 200 Free, and 100 Back; and Nolan Vozzola 10&U Boys 500 Free, 200 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 IM, 50 Fly, and 100 Breast.

According to GA Swimming this was one of the fastest Age Group Champs meet with eight new state records - two newest records now held by Marlins (Nolan Vozzola, Boys 10&U 500 Free 5:30.72 & Kylie Stewart Girls 10&U 100 Back 1:05.99). Liz Braun (13-14), Nolan Vozzola (10&U), and Kylie Stewart (10&U) were also named high point winners for their respective age groups. Nolan Vozzola was the overall top scorer for the entire AG state meet earning 196.5 points!

A high total of 22 swimmers or 67% scored points for the Marlins at the meet. These swimmers by age group are: 10&U - Katie Christy, Olivia Clark, Kylie Stewart, Nolan Vozzola, Jack Zegers; 11/12 - Jamie Christy, Stephanie Peters, Hannah Clark, Alli Crenshaw, Henry Loong, Lily Tang; and 13/14 - Brent Murray, Derek Onken, Emily Siegelman, Non Siwabut, Sarah Williford, Liz Braun, Courtney Peters, Michael Seay, Amanda Tallman, and Thomas Welch.

For top individual performance, Marlins swam away with a team total 20 individual T16 NRT's. Those are amazing individual top performances which account for a third of approximately 60 individual NRT's recorded in the entire meet. Marlins individual NRT performers are: Liz Braun 14 (1x), Henry Loong 12 (5x), Lily Tang 12 (3x), Kylie Stewart 10 (4x), and Nolan Vozzola 10 (7x).

As a team, the Marlins has dropped a staggering total of 663 seconds over the weekend. The largest single event time drops go to Thomas Welch (14) for taking off 29.88 sec in 1000 FR and Alli Crenshaw (12) dropping 26.55 sec also in 1000 FR. Not to be out-performed by the veteran age groupers, the younger & first time AG qualifiers swam admirably as well. Matthew Williford (9) led off the 200 FR Relay with a qualifying time of 33.20; Andrew Tang (9) dropped a total of 19.43 sec in all four individual events while earning an A cut; Alex Mayfield (8) - Marlins youngest boy state qualifier - swam a great 100 FR at 1:13.69 (dropping 1.8 sec!); Max Krater (10) dropped 1.2 sec in his 100 Back; Joseph Hill (9) dropped 53.22 sec total, swam in 11 individual events, and earned three A-cut times!; Olivia Clark (10) earned a AA cuts and 6 A times, and dropped 10.64 sec in 5 out of 11 individual events; Katie Christy (10) turned in 5 solid A-cut swims for a first timer while dropping a total of 20.57 sec; and Marlins youngest girl swimmer Frankie Vozzola (7) turned in a solid performance swimming in a 10&U relay. Marlins Successfully Defended Its 2006 Short-Course Senior State Title.

Dec. 2006 - Marlins ended 2006 calendar year with a strong showing at the 2006 Short-Course Senior State Championship held in the Olympic pool on Georgia Tech campus. Strongly led by this year graduating seniors Dillon Connolly and Jenna Newsome, the Marlins continues with its swimming success in the State of Georgia and once again claims the Division II 2006 SC Senior State Championship title.

Connolly Signs with USC Trojans
Dillon Connolly has signed a national letter of intent to become part of the Division I swim team of the University of Southern California. Dillon has achieved Olympic trial times in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM and was part of the Junior National Team who competed in the Victoria Championships in Australia last January.

Braun & Rabin Heading to 2007 USS Southern Zone Select Camp
Next summer Zone Select Camps has been announced and our very own Liz Braun (14) and Zack Rabin (15) will be representing the Marlins at this USA Swimming-sponsored camp to be held at the Baylor swimming facility in Chattanooga, TN. Liz was selected based on her 2:25.54 timed in the 200 meter backstroke; while still at his former club, Zack swam the 100 meter breaststroke in 1:09.30.

Congratulations to Liz and Zack and to their respective families for reaching this important milestone. These are wonderful achievements and opportunities. The Marlins are very proud of you both.

Double-Gold Winning Performances for Alice Bailey
Alice Bailey earned two Golds for her winning performances in 50FR and 100FR at the 9th Far East South Pacific Intercontinental Games (FESPIG) held this past month in Malaysia.

Following the FESPIG, Alice Bailey also participated at the IPC Swimming World Championships held in Durban, South Africa. Her accomplishments were 4:21.12 in 200 LC Meter IM (SM5) for a 5th place finish, and 2:17.97 in 100 LC Meter Breaststroke (SB4) also good for 5th place.

She is currently on her way traveling back to the U.S. Welcome home Alice and great swims!! :::

Newsome Signs with UK Wildcats
Jenna Newsome has recently signed a national letter of intent to join University of Kentucky Swimming and Diving program Class of 2010. Jenna is an outstanding swimmer for North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, Georgia, and she's also been named a 2006 Scholastic All-American. She was recruited by several top NCAA Division I programs and has finally narrowed her choice to join the Wildcats beginning 2007-2008 academic year. Congratulations to Jenna - and not the least - to Christina and Homer for this great accomplishment!!

Marlins Paralympic Swimmer Represents Chinese Taipei
Congratulations to Alice Bailey who will be representing the Chinese Taipei Paralympic Committee in the 9th Far East South Pacific Intercontinental Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from November 25th to the 30th, 2006. She will then immediately travel to Durban, South Africa, to compete in the 2006 IPC World Swimming Championship from December 2nd to December 8th.

Coach Lim - "Senior Coach of the Year 2005-2006"
This past weekend the Georgia All-Star banquet was held at the Gwinnett Marriot. Coach Lim was the recipient of the "Senior Coach of the Year 2005-2006". The award, which was voted on by the Coaches Committee, was presented by Coach Harvey Humphries of ABSC. Congratulations Coach Lim!! This was well deserved.

Thirty-one Marlins obtained "All-Star" honors and were on hand for the banquet.

Anna Gleyzer - Recipient of the Bill Young Award for 2005-06
Also at the All-Star Banquet this past weekend, Anna Gleyzer was awarded the "Bill Young Award for 2005-2006". This award is named in the memory of a long time friend and tireless worker for Georgia Swimming. It is given at the All Star Ceremony to a graduating high school senior whom we believe is representative of the complete person we hope we are developing through our program. This award does consider extended participation in Georgia Swimming. Of equal importance is recognition of achievements and participation in school, church, and community activities. The qualifications include the swimmer must have graduated from High School during the year prior to the All Star Ceremony and the swimmer must have actively participated in and must have been a registered member of Georgia Swimming Inc. the previous two years.

Congratulations Dillon Connolly - 18 and under 200IM National Champion
The 2006 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships was recently held in Irvine, California during August 1st through 5th. Dillon Connolly walked away with the 18 and under 200IM National Championship honors. During the meet, Dillon also swam Olympic Trial times in the 100 breast, 200 breast and the 200IM.

Five MARLINS Will Represent Georgia Swimming in the 2006 Southern Zone Championship

Coming off both Age Group and Senior State Championship meets, Marlins continues its team success over the 2005-2006 SC and LC seasons by sending five swimmers to the Georgia Zone Team to represent Georgia at the 2006 Southern Zone Championship Meet in August. This is a remarkable achievement considering that all Marlins swimmers make up less than 2 percent of Georgia swimming but as a team the Marlins has 10 percent representation on the state zone team.

7/24 - This year, Marlins sent the largest group of swimmers to the 2006 Georgia State Long Course Championship meet which was held at Georgia Tech.'s Olympic Pool over the past weekend. The Marlins swam away as the Division II 2006 LC SENIOR STATE CHAMPION, matching the 2005-06 Short Course Senior State Championship won earlier in February. Congratulations to the MARLINS SENIORS!!

MARLINS won the 14&U 2006 LC State Championship

Marlins are the 2006 Long Course Division II Age Group State Champion following the state meet this past weekend. The Marlins also won its division during the 14&U 2005-06 Short Course State Championship held earlier in February this year.

Congratulations to all age group swimmers who participated in this LC state meet. Your overall efforts as a team have made the Marlins a CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM in Georgia for the whole 2005-2006 season.

Some of the age group swimmers, who have achieved senior state time, will be able to extend their season by swimming in the senior state meet this weekend July 21-23.
